This piece started with a Delphinium whose petals danced in the breezy summer light outside my front door and sparked this idea of understated, elegant beauty. Her rose petal mouth was found in my own rose garden. All other elements were handpicked flora + botanicals that I gathered on my morning walk in my Swedish archipelago neighborhood — petal by petal.
“Less is more” with refined beauty and this was my mission, too, as I began to create a portrait of a “Women in Blue” using only simple blades of grass + botanicals to create a gesture drawing. Once this composition was complete on my studio table, it was professionally photographed before the petals could wilt and then printed on museum-quality, archival paper.
There are no adhesives or drawing tools used in this artwork. It is composed entirely of petals and leaves.
